We would like to purchase a GPS Azimuth Telescope to aid in our astronomy curriculum at Shepherd Schools. The telescope will be used to look at Planets, stars, the Moon and the Sun throughout the school year. This model of telescope is unique because of its GPS feature, which can be programmed to auto locate star and planet locations with ease. It also has an azimuth function that syncs with Earth’s rotation so you never lose sight of what you are viewing. With this telescope, we will be able to enhance the astronomy curriculum for 3rd Grade Introductory Astronomy, Middle School Earth Science, as well as the Astronomy elective course in High School. An added bonus of the telescope would be for Shepherd to host star parties open to the community. There are astronomical events throughout the year that we could conduct viewings for public outreach and student enrichment.
